Say Anything, North Star Games, 2008, approximate retail $25, game play time: 30 minutes to infinite...

Say anything is a fun family game that can be played by up to ten people.  The game previewed at GENCON Indianapolis in 2008, where convention goers could try out the game and then try to win it by spinning a wheel.

Game pieces:

The game includes a stack of question cards, playing pieces in ten different player colors, dry erase boards, two wager chips per player and a counter with all players colours on it.

Object of the Game:

The object of the game is to get the most points at the end of ten rounds.

Game play:

Each player takes turns reading a question from the stack of question cards.  Questions might be: What was the best movie of all time? Or, Who is the sexiest actor in the movies?  Or, What is the best way to spend an afternoon?

The other players write answers on their dry erase boards and toss them onto the table face up.  They must be fast, because repeated answers are not accepted.  If players write an answer already written by another player, they must come up with something else!  The object when writing answers is to guess the answer the player reading the card will like the most.  This is harder at a party where you don't know anybody yet! Expect a lot of private jokes between players who will often rely on personal knowledge of the card reader to formulate the perfect answer that will appeal to them!

After all the answers are on the table, the card reader picks which answer they like the best by matching the player color on the dry erase board to the color on the spin counter.  Their answer is placed faced down on the table, hidden!

The other players then take their two wager chips and place them on answers they think the card reader will like the most.  When all betting chips are placed, the card reader reveals their choice.  Scoring takes place and then the card reader passes the stack of cards to the next player (clock-wise).

Game play is repeated for 10 rounds, or another number of rounds pre-set by the players.

Scoring:

Once the card reader reveals their choice that round is scored.  The player who wrote the chosen answer receives one point.  The players who picked the answer the reader also picked receive one point per wager chip.  The card reader receives up to three points depending on how many people guessed the answer they picked.  Example, the reader liked purples answer the best, but no one else picked the purple answer, the reader gets zero points.  Or, the read liked the purple answer best and ten wager chips also guessed the purple answer, the reader gets three points.

Comments:

This is a really fun game to liven people up at parties.  It can also be a fun way to help party goers get to know each other.  If more than ten people want to play, it's easy to make a scoring board on paper to accommodate the additional players.  Other items can be used as wager chips such as coins, beads or any other two matching small items!  The most effective answers are usually funny, and not too offensive to other players!
