Democrats, Republicans fail to reach budget deal, face government shutdown

The laissez faire attitude of Americans today is indicative of the way we are represented in Congress and the Senate by Democrats and Republicans. Each one of the parties is for their own party's interest and to hell with everyone else. There are no Americans writing their Congressman or their Senators stating that we want a resolution to this budget crisis and avoid a government shut down. Many Americans who lost their jobs, do not believe that their representatives are out to help them, their allegiance is to their party rather than to the United States of America. This concept is the reason for a lack of nationalism. How can one be proud of their country when their country doesn’t care enough about them to come to an agreement 2 weeks before the budget is due? Even the words government shut down is frightening to people who once thought the USA was the greatest nation in the world.

There is even controversy as to whether the 2nd of August is really the deadline for a government shutdown! Republicans do not believe it is August 2. Most Democrats and Independents believe it will be Aug 2, 2011.

A Gallup poll from 2006 to 2008 showed a significant increase in independents (37%) vs. Democrats (32%) and  Republicans (29%). http://www.gallup.com/poll/28279/gallup-finds-increa se-independents-typical-offyears.aspx Independents have no affiliation to any party. They appreciate and even demand compromise for the good of the nation - rather than for the good of a party.

Americans should be actively involved in politics – at least being aware of what is going on in the government. But, no one gives a damn about politics, when you worry if you’ll have a job tomorrow, when you worry how you are going to make payments on your home, (one that has decreased in value, so that you owe more than your house is worth). Survival of the family supersedes interest in politics. The easiest political view is to blame the man in charge – our President. There is no time to become actively interested in politics – primal needs come first therefore nationalism must take a back seat.

In the meantime, the President is looking for help or support from the so-called leaders of this country. Instead, he gets rhetoric from a bunch of selfish, egocentric, idealistic and wealthy individuals, namely Republicans and Democrats. There is no longer pride in America. Patriotism and nationalism are lacking from American
