The truth is, that teachers like to give and receive gifts just like anyone else. Giving a gift of jewelry is a very personal gift and should be very well thought out.
The first thing to do is to check out your teacher's style of dress. Does he or she wear jewelry? Is it seasonal jewelry? Is it artistic jewelry? Or is it traditional?
For the male teacher a watch or chain necklace or bracelet would be fine. A casual sports watch, perhaps with the logo of his favorite team would be a terrific idea. If he wears other jewelry, a simple silver chain necklace would be appropriate.
For the female teacher the list is considerably longer.
EARRINGS- For the traditional teacher, simple hoops or studs would be a good idea. If the teacher has an allergy to certain metals, be careful with your selection. For the teacher with an artistic flare there are beaded earrings, drop earrings, or creative gemstone earrings. For seasonal gifts, many teachers wear Christmas trees, candy cane, snowmen, and snowflake earrings. You can buy heart shaped earrings for Valentines Day or shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day.
NECKLACES- You can be very creative with necklaces. Simple chain necklaces are always a good idea. Then there are beaded necklaces in the color your teacher likes to wear. You can always select a charm to hang from the necklace...the charm could also be for a seasonal theme.
BRACELETS- The bracelets would follow the same suggestion as the necklaces. However, sports themed bracelets are a good purchase as well.
WATCHES- Does she like large faces, or small ones? Does she prefer a stretch band or a strap instead? There are so many varieties to choose from, take your time to follow her style.
PINS- If your teacher wears pins, you have tons of choices available to you. Does she wear suits, sweaters, jackets, or fancy dresses? Again, match her style to the piece of jewelry.
Buying a piece of jewelry is an expensive gift. You may want to have several families chip in for this gift, or make it the class gift.
In my jewelry box is a necklace with a cross on it given to me by one of my third grade students. His mother explained that he asked to do chores around the house to save money for this special gift. I had several health concerns that year and he wanted me to be protected by the cross. Teachers don't always know how they effect their students, or why the students select certain gifts. Teachers do know that the best gift is given from the heart.
