I'm one of those children who fell in love with soccer- all grown up now. I played for 10+ years and have coached for the past few years.
Soccer doesn't take a tremendous amount of skill at lower levels. It teaches youth how to work as a team and develop their own skills. It aids in the development of communication, it's a good work out and children enjoy running around after a ball and learning competition and the highs and lows of it.
The trend towards soccer for youth is because of these reasons. It is also a game that is easy to understand at lower levels and involves encouragement from parents. It teaches discipline and encourages a healthy lifestyle. How could any child go wrong learning those skills at a young age?
