THE LEGEND OF GREAT LAKE SUPERIOR
Way up North where Minnesota greets Canada there is a body of water like no other
It is so enormous, that to all the other lakes nearby, its is like their big brother
It's surface area covers an astounding 50,000 square miles
And when he grows angry every November, no Mariner smiles
According to legend, the lake can rise with fury, without so much as a warning
And every ship and crew can become easy prey whenever Superior is storming
One cloudy afternoon in 1975, a ship named the Big Fitz would try and navigate her way through Superior
In no time at all, the Big Fitz would be made to look utterly feeble and inferior
The following day, a heavy snowfall made visibility immensely blurry
The Big Fitz and her brave crew found themselves trapped in a storm of incredible magnitude and fury
100 mile per hour winds and 35 foot waves terrified the crew and cancelled dinner
By 7 PM, it was unmistakably clear that in this confrontation, Superior was going to be the winner
Death for the Big Fitz was sudden and catastrophic. It was so tragic the way she went
Not so much as a single distress signal was even sent
And so it is the legend of Great Lake Superior, big and strong
wide and long
Be it no mistake
A tremendous Great Lake
