I look in the mirror to see a reflection
of a woman who is trying to be stronger
than who she has to be.

She’s holding together by the thread,
that’s winding up instead. Going
through the motions, like a  hurricane
that hasn’t yet touched her feet to the
ground; blowing through the place
without a simple sound.  

Her footsteps are printed in the sand
in the contemplation of her mind, yet
she looks at the clock on the wall and
says “maybe another time”.

While her hand is pulling at the handle
of the dresser of her fears, that are
stained with all the tears she’s hidden
every year she’s been on earth.

She’s dressed to be a winner and learned
to never give up, when inside she feels
like she’s slowly drowning and is falling
through the cracks.

And putting on the smile that will fool
everyone instead, while it makes her
heart beat faster around in a circle of
dread. For her life is a lie, and she
knows it.

Even in contemplation, she’s trying to
be strong and hold on, for those
moments are constant when she feels
like she has nothing.
