Empowerment through self-discovery

by Eugene Pitout

Created on: July 11, 2011

What is self discovery? You may ask because it sounds rather like a new age concept. All your life through traumas and decisions you made, you left part of yourself stuck in the ruins. This really is not a conscious or intentional deed so therefore we tend to think that self discovery is a new age concept and really not essential to our well being.

How this happens is in time as you grow you experience certain moments of pain, emotional and physical, the fear of experiencing it again causes one to act in a different way in the future. Therefore you have many potentially powerful fragments of yourself not present in the here and now making you ill equipped to face life as it is in the present.

As an example lets say when you were young you thoroughly enjoyed singing along to songs on the radio. One day your mother or father has a headache and tells you to “shut up! Your squealing is giving me a headache” and you experience this as an emotionally traumatic event and lock this memory in your psyche as a reminder that you had better “Shut up because your voice sounds like squealing and it annoys people”

In that moment a fragment of your being remains stuck in the past while the rest of you moves on into the future. Gradually through your life you leave fragments of yourself behind like this but also in other ways. When you lend your ears out to the laws and morals of others and decide to use that as a limitation to your being you do the same thing.

People who like to ridicule society into doing things their way and subtle psycho advertising for example are classic ways in which we are deluded into locking fragments of ourselves up never to be used when we need them again.

The sad result is that we are left an empty shell without that original vigor and lust for life itself that we had when we were younger. What used to be a dare and a challenge now becomes something that you fear doing and you don’t really remember when what or why you made that decision.

The cure for this situation can come in many forms. One can go for therapy and see if these incidents come up in memory. There is a method called Dianetics that L Ron Hubbard came up with but you need to find an auditor to confess these events to. One can go on a walkabout until one finds oneself but there are no guarantees.

Emotional freedom technique EFT has methods to bring fragmented parts of oneself back into the present but it takes too long to explain. The easiest method
