Entrepreneurship: How to develop business ideas

by ARC IDEA CO

Created on: July 11, 2011

Are you thinking of starting your own business? You always wanted to become an entrepreneur, yet, you don’t know where to start. Your business will start with an idea. And, that idea will make the business marketable or not.

How will you be able to come up with an idea? What you need is a pen, paper, library, and computer and business magazines. Here is how you can develop a business idea.

1)    Start with your passion. Do you think you can turn your passion into money? If you think so, then write down all the things that you would do even though you won’t be paid for it. It may sound ridiculous to others, but that’s your passion. Even though you won’t be paid, you’ll go for it. Now, look how your passion can turn to income.

2)    Sort your ideas from the one you love the most to the one you hate, or from first to last.

3)    Explain why you put the items in their orders. Just write the explanation against it. Just let your imagination roll.

4)    Remove the last ones on your list. Doing something that you don’t like that much is unreasonable. You don’t want to own a business or do a job that you dislike, right? The amount of time for the development and growth of the business depends on how you love the idea.

5)    Use the SWOT method. Identify the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of each business idea that you come up.

6)    Study the market. There are markets that are open for certain seasons, like Christmas season. Do you want your business to be a short term one or a long term one? Also, think of people who are buying.

7)    Research on areas that are underserved. Find out the areas that the demand is higher than the supply. And you can fill in the gaps.

8)    After you have done the 7 steps, rewrite your list. Did it change in terms of your priorities?

9)    There are experts when it comes to the field that you want to enter. Talk to them. You don’t need to make everything formal. You can invite that person to a lunch and just talk with them. Have a conversation with them. Make sure that the topics you two are discussing are related to the field. These experts would love to help others to succeed.

10) Start with something that you know. If you’re thinking of a side business, then it’s best that you start with something that you know by heart. This will bring immediate income to your household. You don’t have to wait for getting a capital, buildings and debt.

11) It is best that you attend business seminars. You get to meet other entrepreneurs and be able to learn new techniques. You get to be around people just like you. It is also a way to network.

Always think of starting with something that you really know. This is your passion and you know it by heart. You aren’t clueless if you start with something that you know. Also, don’t get in debt for seasonal and side businesses.
