Must See and Do
Friends and family ask me this question, what can one do in Mauritius? There is so much things for you to do in Mauritius. Be it under the Sun or at the Sea, you'll be amazed by the many choices that unfolds every minute and every day of your stay in Mauritius. First, I would like to open up the Sea chapter, here many water sports are available to all ages. Personally, I still prefer to indulge in the luxurious cruise of the Catamaran. Catamaran Cruises abound in plentiful in the Mauritian waters. And because it has such a calm and beautiful water, people are naturally drawn to its nice beaches and sea. While onboard the Catamaran, you can choose from different fun filled activities and islands which you would like to hop to and visit. I went on 2 cruises, the Cruise to Ile Aux Cerfs and Ilot Gabriel, its golden beaches and translucent lagoons appeal to everyone visiting this island. Onboard, the cruise, the captain and crew will prepare for you a sumptuous BBQ meal while you enjoy on the deck breathing in the nice and cooling sea breeze. Another must do item on the list in Mauritius has to be the Undersea Walk. Imagine yourself walking on the moon like an astronaut, but here you'll be practically walking on the seabed accompanied by an experienced and skilled instructor. You will be asked to put on a clear tank attached with a oxygen pipe that runs up to the platform above you. Walking on the seabed is a lifetime experience, surrounded by the corals, fishes will swim to you when you start feeding them food from your hands. At the end of the day, pose for the camera man and you'll get to keep as souvenirs of your trip to the Undersea walk.
Ecotourism is the next thing on the list that Mauritius is right now trying to promote itself. A tour to Curepipe, Grand Bassin, Plaine Champagne and Chamarel, enjoy a puff of fresh air while your eyes feast on the panoramic view from the top of "Trou Aux Cerfs", an extinct volcano about 700,000 years old. Brief stop in the town centre of Curepipe to visit a ship model factory and for some shopping as well. And only a stone throw from Grand Bassin, are the Black River Gorges, Chamarel and its coloured earth. A visit to the well-known Pamplemousses Garden or French name meaning abundance of trees, this botanical gardens is a must for all nature lovers, be enthralled by its giant water lilies which abounds in its garden's pond, have seen the locals throwing coins onto the leaves of the lily, maybe it will bring good luck, why not throw one yourself, the next time you are here.
There are so many other activities that one can found in Mauritius and if you look carefully, you'll be amazed at how this small island can accommodate so much more and you'll be complaining at the end of the day, why so little time left for me to explore this beautiful haven of Sea, Sun and Sand.
