Overeating to the point of gluttony is morbid, and some overweight people just can't or won't stop. But there is a whole other dimension to the question of overweight people and gluttony. Most overweight people don't really want to be heavy. Sure, there are always a few folks who could care less about how they look, and they continue to eat themselves out of house and home, but this article isn't for those who have no self-respect.

No matter how many times the media worships thin people, or the family doctor says to eat less, a whole bunch of folks aren't heeding the message. In fact, there are more overweight people now than there ever were. Zeroing in on America, this country has an awful lot of gluttons, plain and simple! Let's illustrate this picture for those who don't believe this fact.

Drive through any fast food outlet and observe what many folks order. "Would you like to super-size that"? "Would you like the extra meal options with that order"? "Would like more..and more... and more", and on and on until it makes one sick! This country better stop and watch what the hell they're putting in their bodies, because sooner or later there won't be enough hospitals to handle the overload of people who are going to need medical attention, as if they don't need it already. Yes, overweight people eat and gain weight, more and more weight to the point where gluttony is superseded by medical sickness. Diabetes is already at epidemic proportions, along with the size of the meals on the plate!

In the old days gluttons were sent out to pasture, literally. Ancient Rome fell because of gluttony, among other gross behaviors, and the same thing is happening with this country. Whether it's because food is pushed by the advertising honchos twenty-four hours per day, or some people just can't get enough calories down their gullet, it's really frightening to watch. I guess there are some folks who don't understand the old axiom that the more you eat the more weight you gain.

Technology has been a wonderful thing for all of us. We don't have to walk as far, work as much, or even get off the couch to change the TV channel. We also are paying dearly for all of this comfort by expanding waistlines. The fact is, when I see people who are so big that they are on disability because they weigh in excess of one thousand pounds and can't fit through their front door, then I know we are in a world of hurt! These gargantuan gluttons not only are making themselves sick, but I for one want to throw up my latest meal as well whenever I watch those TV shows on the lifestyle network! Enough is enough, and not only is it a crying shame to see a blob of humanity confined to a bed, but what about the rest of us that have to pay "through the nose", so to speak, because they can't stop eating and can't work as a result of their gluttony? This is really a sick situation, and even though this is the extreme portrait of gluttony, many folks are on their way to joining these morbidly obese right on their own bed as well.

It's time to take a good, long, hard look at the eating customs of our society, and to pull out all of the stops to curtail all of the overeating. I don't advocate forcing people to eat certain things, but I certainly am against those of us who are healthy enough to live a somewhat normal life and having to pay for those gluttons who can't stop eating!
