Best places in the United States to see penguins in captivity

There are many places to see penguins in the United States. However, the best places are organizations devoted to protecting these flightless birds, encouraging visitors to join the cause of penguin preservation and providing delightful habitats for penguins and other animals in their care. When these criteria are adhered to, penguin enthusiasts will undoubtedly be enchanted with their experiences of visiting penguins in captivity. The following organizations are the best places in the United States to see penguins in captivity.

The Mystic Aquarium is operated by the Sea Research Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about aquatic animals through educational programs and research. Their first penguin exhibit opened in 1989, and since then they have participated in many activities that encourage people to understand and appreciate penguins. Among some of their more popular events are the 5K Run, Walk (or Waddle) to benefit African Penguin Conservation. Penguins from the Mystic Aquarium can also be seen in the 2011 released Hollywood film, “Mr. Popper’s Penguins.”

The California Academy of Sciences works to understand and explain our environment through numerous exhibits and educational programs. Originally founded in the mid 1800’s, the California Academy of Sciences was fully refurbished in 2008. Penguins are featured in their Penguin a + Pajamas sleepover event. They can be also be viewed and studied in the Steinhart Aquarium, an attraction at the California Academy of Sciences, through a variety of live penguin cams and exhibits.
