He wasn't supposed to be here. "Oh, why did I ever agree to come? She's Richard's new girlfriend, but the way that she smiled at me when I met her the other night...oh man I must be crazy." Standing outside the venue, in line waiting to purchase his ticket for the Morris Day and The Time concert that night, Gene wondered, "Did she really want me to come too, when Richard invited me? Did I misread her smile? Am I an idiot, or worse, a traitor?"
"Gene! Glad you could make it buddy!" Gene whirled around and saw Richard and Mary coming toward him.Mary, looked beautiful, with that same smile, that same look in her eyes. It was all Gene could do to tear his gaze away from her, to lie to Richard, " Man, I am so glad you invited me, I love Marvin Day!"
"You mean "Morris Day", don't you?" corrected Mary, with a tease in her voice, "Oh, and by the way, we have already bought your ticket."
"Yeah, Mary was in town earlier today, and wanted to make sure we got our seats early in case it sold out. She is always thinking ahead," Richard proudly stated.
Mary handed Gene his ticket. As he looked at it, he saw that it was the seat right beside her, placing Richard in the seat on her other side.
When he looked up, he saw that Mary was smiling at him. Richard saw it too.
