Poetry: On abortion

by Harroll Hendon

Created on: July 09, 2011

A quick resolution to a difficult situation

She will lie helpless on her back, silently enduring the invasion

The burden is terminated you can let out a sigh of relief

While she hangs her head in shame, guilt, despair, and grief

She has produced just another casualty

Wiping away the tears of not being worthy

Laying in a fetal position wrenching in pain

Trying with all she has to compress the mental strain

Hiding behind a painted mask of normalcy

Underneath is the beautiful insanity

Again, again and again

The desire, dream and trust was slain

And where is the one she naively relied upon?

He, like the babies, is long gone

And happened to the butcher?

What has become of her?

Her body disassociated from her mind

The memories she carries and swears she will not leave behind

Restrain her more than any child alone

She exists lifeless bearing the torment of the unknown
