The impact technology has had upon society today cannot be measured. In fact, it has had such an impact, that if it were wiped out then the human race would be thrown back into the ‘Dark Ages’. Technology has had such an impact on all of our lives, that we are now not able to do without it.
It controls every single aspect of our lives, from the moment we get up, to the moment we go to bed. Everything we do, everything we see is run by technology. There is not one part of life that has remained untouched by the influence of technology. Now, one has to say whether this has been for the better…or for the worse?
The growth of technology has seen this society become much more darker, more mean, and more suspicious of each other. We use technology [CCTV] to spy on our friends and neighbours - in equal measure. Whatever we say or do on the Internet is now being ‘policed’ 24 hours a day.
The thought that technology brings ‘freedom’ to do the things that we want to do, gives us a false sense of security. Technology still relies on human beings to program and oversee it. Yet, the day is coming fast when soon, technology will have taken such a hold on society that it will not need human intervention anymore [artificial intelligence].
Such a day is fast approaching, and when it comes then we can all say goodbye to the final remnants of the human race. With each bit of progress technology makes we, in turn, lose a little of our humanity. Even now, in today’s society, people hardly speak [orally]. Text language has become the ‘new communication’, and this has made for a society that is insular, suspicious of each other, and inward-looking.
It has made for a society in which it is ‘every man for themselves’ and damned be the rest who may need help. This is the profound and massive impact that technology has over us. Its influence stretches far and wide, and touches upon every single aspect of our lives - both in our personal and working life.
Such is its influence that technology has become both our friend and enemy within. Indeed, the growth in obesity has to be put down -not just to the fast food chains and supermarkets offering ‘two for the price of one’ - but to the grown in technology too. We sit in front of our computers - be they laptops, net books, tablets, Iphones, or gaming machines - and we waste our lives away. In society today, we have become, staid, impotent
