Several centuries ago if you were sitting in a tavern you would listen and talk about people that achieved greatness. You would talk about some genius inventor that could copy books in a matter of days, you would brag how you were in an army of a general that cunningly defeated an opposing army with his wits and trick. Today when you sit in a coffee house all you can hear is how some moron entered the big brother house and did this or that. You probably talk how some celebrity was arrested for DUI or a new sex video of some girl that you heard on a radio whose voice was auto-tuned but still hard to listen. So what happened to human kind in mere centuries? If you look superficially you could say that human population has multiplied several times over and it's harder to recognize people with potential and easier to see a fool because there are in a vast majority. But to me the real problem is much much deeper.
The biggest problem is reaching your potential. Intelligence is described as an ability to learn, capacity for understanding. The more intelligence you have it's easier for you to grasp new concepts, learn new things and solve your problems. To fully develop your capacities for learning you need proper education and you should start very young. I constantly hear parents talking about not wanting to teach their kids to read or write before school. They say let kids be kids. That way of thinking is completely wrong. I'm not saying you should close your kid in a room and drill information in his head, but children to the age of 10 absorb knowledge at incredible rates. You can teach them trough playing, instill in them adesire for knowledge. On the other hand, if you ignore learning and leave everything to the school system, your child will fail in achieving his true potential no matter how much intelligence he does have. Remember an intelligent person and a smart person are not the same. There are many people with average intelligence that achieve greatness through hard work but there are also highly intelligent people who just survive day by day and whither slowly.
The second problem appeared in the last century. At first mass communications seemed like a good idea. You could bring the world together, interact and learn from the people around the world. But people who dreamed that dream now can only see a nightmare. Control of the information has become vital in controlling the people. Mind-numbing Internet sites serve to kill a persons will and thirst for
