Breakfast for dinner is starting to enjoy a rise in popularity in the United States. The restaurant chain Jack In The Box has even started to make breakfast meals available 24 hours a day. On weekends, breakfast in my house is an event, and for many years we have enjoyed "breakfast dinners" as well. But why are they so enjoyable or good for a family.
First, cost. Sausage, eggs, and toast is a common breakfast. Price all the ingredients at the local Kroger, and you could feed a family of four for a cost of $4.00 for one meal. If you are struggling with funds, this can be a good way to stretch your meal budget. Remember, if you have young children, they only like tast meals, and are not hung up on variety.
Second, breakfast dinners can also offer a good cross section of nutrition. Get a lean turkey or chicken sausage and you can get a meal high in protein. Eggs are high in protein and a good source of lutein. If you get a wheat toast, there is a easy way to get more fiber that most Americans get in one serving. Higher fiber helps your body release insulin at a slower rate, helps you feel fuller, and also helps your body process excess cholesterol.
Third, breakfast dinners are quick. If you are pressed for time, a breakfast meal can be whipped out in fifteen minutes. Rachael Ray's 30 minnute meals have nothing on a good quick breakfast dinner of french toast, turkey bacon, and a fruit bowl chaser.
