Why do people get tattoos if they hurt?

Tattoos hurt!

Don't believe anyone who say's otherwise.

Never forget that tattoo's are in essence, having your body stabbed repeatedly over and over again with a needle, and paying for the privilege.

I've just had another tattoo, and boy did it hurt!

So I have to question why? Do I like pain? Do I enjoy being marked for life? Am I a closet masochist? Is it a pleasent expeariance?

No

And yet still I'm already looking for my next tattoo.

You see to me a tattoo has meaning. A modern day right of passage. Not for me a little heart on my arm saying mum, or a cute little butterfly. I now have a dragon, a phoenix (one on each shoulder blade), and the latest is a tigers head, all in black, all with a hell of a lot of shading. This last one is dead in the center of my spine, and believe me it wasn't pleasant to have done.

But I am proud of it. It is something I have done for me, and each one has a reason. Thats why I'm already planning the next two, both of which will be painfully shaded black and ink tattoo's, both mythical, representing my children, and the center tiger for my wife.

Why do I have tatoo's? Because I can't see a more personnel expression of art, which will last my life, and belongs to me and me alone. You want me to show them off, sure I will, but if not then I don't care, there here under my shirt for me.

Maybe part of me needs to have the pain to feel like there part of me, I don't know. I know that some women who deliver by C section struggle to bond with there child. Others have no problems. Do I worry about the tattoo artist making a mistake? No, because I have found an artist I have complete confidence in, and don't think I would go to anyone else.

So to put my points in some sort of order, here's my own personal FAQ of tattoo's

1> Should I have a tattoo?

I can't answer this one, but if you have to ask the question then your probably not ready. It is your choice, and it is for life. Be sure! (Cover ups usually look bad, and laser treatment is expensive and very uncomfortable)

2> How do I pick a tattoo artist?

Ask around, look at other tattoo's and if you see one you like, find out who did it. Always look at the work the artist has done, and always at least 6 mths after it was finished (this gives it time to heal properly, and to make sure that there is little fading or discoloration). Talk to the artist. Make sure you feel comfortable with him.

3> What should I get?

Whatever you want, but remember
