Substance Abuse and any type of addiction, one might say these are vast subject and no short article can cover its mystery. The bottom line of these conditions can be categorized in two simple subjects, emotional and physical dependence. When assessing someone with problems of substance abuse, it is necessary that emotional state of an individual should be taken into consideration. There are individuals who have addictive personality, why, you might ask, it might be in the genetic framework of an individual or it could be the person's way of escaping reality by using mind numbing substances. What is the most abused substance nowadays, alcohol and nicotine. Being awake and knowing what's going on and yet the feeling is numb to the hurt of their existence. Lucky are those who divert their addictions to something productive, like working more, or doing other activities that are less destructive to their mind, body and spirit. I guess in order for people to battle these destructive addictions and win, they need to know the reason why they got emotionally and physically dependent on them.
