What is a real friend? In a world that so many people are out to take advantage of others how can you really tell if those you choose to be friends with are going to be there through thick and thin or if they are just going to take advantage of you and leave you hopeless when you really need them?
A real friend will be there regardless of the lifestyle you choose. Regardless of the choices you make in your life they will be right there standing beside you and supporting you through everything. A real friend will tell you truthfully when they think you are making a bad choice and try to keep you from getting hurt and be there even if you go against their advice and do get hurt.

Everyone goes through some rough patches in their lives and needs a true friend to count on. A true friend will never tell you it's too late to call or that your problems are too insignificant to be bothered with.
For me I have found out the hard way who my real friends are after having a child at a young age. While many of my friends suddenly no longer had any time to talk or go out or just assumed because I was now a mother I wouldn't be interseted in going out anymore. Those few friends that still made an effort to phone and see how I was doing, those that came up to the hospital and those that celebrated in my joys rather then looking as my newest addition as an inconvience.
You can never really tell if someone is going to be a real friend right off the bat or if they will end up hurting you in the end but in order to find any real friends in life and in order not to miss any great opportunities you have to take risks. The only way you can gain knowledge, friendship and understanding you have to take risks and only hope for the best. If the new friends end up not being real friends at least you know that those who have stood beside you all these years will be there, standing beside you, comforting you and pushing you to move forward.
