How to cure insomnia

There are few things that are harder than trying to sleep when feeling anxious. Anxiety and worry is the most common reason for inability to sleep. There are some simple and well known techniques to beat it.

1) Don't go to be until very tired. If you are in bed and unable to sleep then get up and do something, such as watch TV or read a book (but not in the bed). Lying in bed for a long time before sleeping doesn't help.

2) Drink a warm drink, such as hot milk or horlicks.

3) When you are tired and do go to bed, read a novel for a bit (say 30 minutes) then go to sleep. To keep your mind free of stressful thoughts find something else to focus your mind on. I tend to "write" (or imagine) a little story in my mind. Trying to remember song lyrics, or poetry or reciting some list (the states or the presidents for example) also works. The main thing is to find something that interests you that you can think about instead of whatever worries you have.

Good luck!
