Unless you have a video card that enables you to input a signal into your PC, or unless the LCD monitor as a stand alone, has its own input for directly inputing a signal from a VCR, or DVD, your not going to have much luck in trying to do so.
Even if both components do, the picture quality is very inferior compared to that of a regular analogue monitor.
Should you have a HD ready video/tuner card in your PC, then you can do so as the card has inputs to recieve the signal from what ever source you wish to use, as well as receive signals via of the built in tuner which allows viewing just as you would with any ordinary TV.
Keep in mind however, that unless the signal your inputing to the PC or monitor is either High Definition, or digital, you will be viewing a substandard picture.
Anyone who has a HD TV knows this when they view regular analogue channels as opposed to an HD program or digital program.
But if you have the proper card, or if the monitor has the inputs, then by all means use the monitor in place of your TV, but you'll have to be happy with a poor quality picture.
