After a long week at work there is nothing so entertaining as a girls night out.
I find they fall into several categories:
1 - The Tried and Tested Routine
2 - The Hen Party
3 - The Dreaded - "let's do something different".
1] - The Tried and Tested Routine - this is the night out that is familiar as putting on your comfiest slippers. You go out with established friends, go to places you know are good and have a great if not spectacular night out. My favourite of these is with some friends I meet once a month, we meet at 8.00pm at our favourite wine bar and have a couple of glasses of rose wine. We have time to talk and catch up on each others news, find out what changes are going on in our lives and then we head out for a meal. Usually we have booked a table at one of our favourite restaurants where we can have a bit of a bop on the dance floor as well as enjoy a leisurely meal and then finish up with coffees, then head home before the witching hour.
2] - The Hen Party - These have usually been either spectacular successes or abysmal failures. My worse memory is of a friend's hen night where we were all required to dress in pink and wear silly hats. Fifty of us went out early and by 9.30pm several of the party were well on the way to being drunk. We managed to get into a night club where unfortunately the club had a Pernod promotion running along side a beauty competition for the "Miss In-String" title. This involved the contenders being on stage in their panties and a string vest! Two of our party were persuaded to enter and were both given a free bottle of Pernod to drink. Before we knew what was happening the Bride-to-be and her bridesmaid were up on stage showing off their attributes to the rowdy catcalls of the appreciative male audience. They even managed to come 2nd and 3rd in the competition. By the time they got off stage they were totally hammered and spent the next few hours draped over various males until we were able to peel them away and get them outside to get on the coach we had ordered. One of the ladies was so drunk she couldn't climb on the bus, so we had to carry her on, at which point we realized the Bride-to-be was missing. We eventually tracked her down to the chip shop further down the road where she was causing her own brand of mayhem. Dragging her back to the bus she insisted she needed the toilet and proceeded to squat down in the middle of the road to relieve herself. Oh the shame of it all! We managed to get every one on the bus but it had to stop half a dozen times on the way back for various people who either felt sick or needed a comfort stop. The following week the Bride looked radiant as she walked down the aisle, and on the back row we were passing round photos of the night out as they took their vows and tried not to giggle when the vicar asked "Does any one of any just impediment".
3]- The Dreaded - "let's do something different", in future I will turn this offer down. I no longer want to try bungee jumping [ I don't like heights], a stroll across the fields to a country pub, [we lost our way and ended up doing a 10 mile hike], let's try a combat course [in stiletto's and a short skirt - no way], what about going to the authentic Armenian restaurant [if that waiter pinches my backside once more he is going to be wearing the main course], etc etc.
Just a second the phone is ringing.... " do I want to go on a girl's night out?" - OK put me down for that - I'm looking forward to it already.
