Slowly over time as blogs became more and more popular they starting being accepted as a legitimate form of communication and publication. Before long pretty much everyone and their brother was reading their favorite blogs daily, and most of the readers had a blog of their own. Free blogging services like Google's Blogger.com let users quickly set up a personal blog and took all the hard guess work out of running the blog correctly. Now with literally millions of people blogging across the world and even more blog readers, it was only a matter of time before blogs started affecting business, and especially e-commerce business. How? Read on to find out.
With millions of blogs online, and millions upon millions of new blog posts being published every day, it was only a matter of time before people ran out of true wisdom and just started to post daily rants and raves. Before long blog posts about defective products and terrible customer service were really starting to catch people's attention, and more importantly they started to affect real business. What started out as Joe Nobody posting random thoughts became a viable means for which to express real thoughts and opinions on products and services. It wasn't just the negative comments on blogs that were making a splash in the business world, but the positive ones as well. We've all heard the saying "There is no such thing as bad publicity". Well this was sort of a double edge sword for e-commerce businesses and blogs about their products and services. On the one hand, having your company or product being blogged about could tear your good reputation to shreds if the person writing the blog has actual credibility and has had a legitimately bad experience with your company. One the other hand, having your company name and website exposed to thousands of new viewers is like hitting the jackpot when it comes to traffic and bring in new visitors. So the question because, "Is it worth it to have a few people pissed off at us if it brings in twice as many new customers?". In the end there was a better way for e-commerce businesses to exploit the biosphere's without dealing the negative publicity, and that was by running their own blog.
