It is important to do extracurricular activities to become a well rounded person. Whether your in 8th grade or 12th, extra activities will help you grow and learn as an individual. College admissions will be considering how your spending this time. This should not be a stressful part of the college search process. The important thing is to do activities that you enjoy.
There is no reason to sign up for the baseball team if you'd rather be going to art school. What is your passion? Discovering what it is that you enjoy to do in your free time and signing up for classes or activities in it will allow you to be happier. During the college interview, the admissions counselors will probably ask you about these activities and the passion will be seen in your remarks.
Other ways to boost the college admissions is by giving back to the community. Volunteering to help the homeless, meals on wheels, cleaning the local highways, or tutoring children are great ways to help. It is again important to choose something that is interesting to you.
