According to Allstate Insurance Company's "Best and Worst Drivers of U.S. cities with populations over 100,000" ranking report from 2005, New York City isn't the worst. It's actually ranked 23rd worst out of 196 cities that made the list, with Washington D.C. making the number one spot. But guess who was number 1 on that same list for largest population? New York City. Since it's way up there on the list of worsts, and has the most people, that would be a good reason why the city has "so many" bad drivers. Greater numbers are usually accompanied by a list of greater of everything, including undesirables like bad drivers and crime. Or, perhaps the taxi drivers aren't very good and the rest of the residents don't get much practice because the population density keeps them from driving their own cars very often...if they have one!
