The process began way back freshman year in high school. I joined a "college prep" institution that wasted no time in shoving a cookie-cutter regiment into my future. Unknowingly, I received the blinders that remove all possibility to look and think laterally. College remained my "choice" despite society at-large "choosing" for me.
So I went to college. Now I hold my English degree. And so far it's the biggest thing in my wallet. Don't get me wrong; I hear English majors can go on and earn big cash. Flexibility. That's what I hear. "There's so much you can do with an English degree." Though most go into the fifth grade classroom and earn a salary that can pay off those college loans by the time they turn 70. Others go into Law. The rest of us seem to float into obscure positions that never seem to require a knowledge of Post-Modernism Existentialism.
I'm in the "floating" category currently. I seem to be re-thinking my freshman year in college when I decided to go BA instead of BS for nursing. After all, with the latter I could have a nicer car right now. Heck, I could have a car. Plus, I could have a salaried job. With dental.
But I didn't. My heart has always been with literature. So here I am, working mostly pro-bono without a salary. And without dental. But I've got everything covered. My plan is to just stay happy. Besides, there is nothing to worry about. I brush twice a day.
