Two large towers used to drown out the sky line of New York City. Such a proud emblem for this country. They represented our large hold on economics for we were the country that just about ruled the stock market as well as trading goods with the rest of the world. Yet no one thought of them much, no one gave them a second thought while watching a movie filmed in NYC or visiting the great big apple. The towers were our central nervous system of the world economics.
One horrific day they fell. I have to hand it to the terrorist who hijacked those planes on September 11th 2001. I have to give them at least a bone for they were smart to hit us where they did, because they hit us where it hurt. Although I believe that hell itself is too good a punishment for them, they plotted and planned and hit America in the right place. I remember watching the television (Hollow man was the movie that was on) when I heard about the towers falling. My sister called me to tell me our counry was under attack, and, like everyone else I think who had first heard the news, had to shake off a cover of disbelief. Since when has the United States been attacked (since the Civil War times when it was brother pitted against brother?) To watch those towers fall was akin to seeing the American way of life go down the toilet. People rushing about running to the gas pumps before we hit over five dollars a gallon, and the name of the terrorist who plotted this attack came on the radio.
Yet almost six years later, who can admit honestly that they remember the horrors of that day freshly? We are already thinking of rebuilding the towers (I am pretty sure with a large melancholy to the old one) and an attempt to offer a shrine of sorts to those who had lost their lives in the 9/11 attack. I believe a good idea is to place a plaque with the words "Let freedom rein" for all of America to remember, that at our worst time, when we were grieving, we pulled together, bowed a knee to God and came through. We need to remember the Great One who got us through, and never forget such a tragedy. We need to rebuild the twin towers (as we are doing now) while not forgetting how we have come to have to re-build them.
