Comparing TNA and WWE wrestling

The two companies are driven by different business models. The WWE is more entertainment-oriented than TNA. It will focus more on building storylines and will borrow or even steal from competing promotions. When the WWE became more raunchy with its' storyline, abandoning their 1980s family-oriented comedy entertainment, it was due to the fact their 1980s fanbase was growing up, and also due to the underground movement known as ECW. ECW was innovative, as well as controversial, breaking kayfabe, with their garbage-wrestling style matches, mixing facts with fiction. The Stone Cold Steve Austin character was basically their version of ECW's The Sandman, except SCSA could wrestle if he chose to. The anti-establishment theme of ECW also influenced the rise of the N.W.O., which was an idea borrowed from Japan (i.e. Riki Choshu's Army invades All Japan). Another example is TLC and the Hardcore Championship, ideas that were obviously influenced by ECW, who were doing those type of matches well before the WWE upped the ante in terms of violence and sex.The WWE focuses more on the ladies than TNA. They are definitely a more slick production, with a bigger budget. WWE is more for the fan who is less concerned about wrestling, and wants to be entertained. It doesn't mean the WWE can't have great wrestling matches, with guys like Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Brock Lesnar and Chris Benoit, as examples of excellent workers. The problem is most WWE fans don't care for this type of wrestling. Bret Hart-Shawn Michaels is another example.

TNA is based more on the traditional pro wrestling fan, who is less concerned with gimmicks and more concerned with the actual action. Their storylines are more traditional along the lines of Southern US wrestling promotions. The X-Division and the six-sided ring is something I haven't seen before. Their talent roster is quite impressive, and they are clearly entrenched as the #2 promotion in the USA for now. Their resources aren't quite as extensive as the WWE, but they have been only around for about 5 years. They are tied to Panda Energy International, which is an energy company that is the source for their revenue.
If you're into traditional pro wrestling, TNA will be more your style. If you like the the entertainment aspect of the industry, WWE will cater more to you. TNA
should consider a ladies division with women's tagteam championship as well. It could open the door to more women in the business. They have some talent, but they don't have the base the WWE has to work with. In terms of match quality, TNA tends to outperform the WWE usually. TNA's storylines and angles tend to be not so elaborate and wellthought as the WWE's are, because they are more focused on the sport aspect, and sell that more than the entertainment, which is why they rely less on non-pro wrestling celebrities to promote their PPVs or TV Shows.
