When your teenagers are at school in study hall and they have nothing better to do, there is a large portion of them who will ask to go to the computer lab. When they are at the computer lab, they can't access Myspace because of legal repercussions, so what is a bored teenager to do? They can watch people do funny stuff on YouTube!
There is a large number of funny videos on YouTube. They range from the classic Numa Numa video, to the video blog of lonelygirl15. The majority of these are funny and you can always expect something original every time you go there. The sheer quantity of videos can be overwhelming, but that's why you are on YouTube. You need to kill time.
Of course, for every good video on YouTube, there is one that is not so good. However, you can tell the creator of the video and the world what you do not like about the video. There is no word censor in the comment box on YouTube, but there is the ability for people to flag comments and even entire videos for being inappropriate or for copyright violation. As YouTube rarely shuts down videos without first being informed of the problem, the community is self-reliant on telling the moderators about any problems.
Now, if you think a video stinks so badly that you could do better, you can also do that. You can take your camcorder, film yourself and a few buddies doing something funny. These could range from jumping off the roof of your house to chugging a gallon of milk. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as you do it, it is funny, and you can get it on a digital camcorder. Then, just put the video on your computer and, if you want to, use your favorite video editing software to make your video look as good as it possibly can. After you like how your video looks, make an account on YouTube and confirm your e-mail address. Afterwards, upload your video, and now the whole world can see you vomiting up a gallon of milk.
In conclusion, YouTube is one of the funnest sites on the Internet. If your video is good enough, you could become a worldwide celebrity like Gary Brolsma. Since Google has recently bought out YouTube, it will be interesting to see how the YouTube community evolves because of it.
