ON THE SCOURGE OF TERRORISM

It was in the closing chapters of the 18th century that the term "terrorism" first became objectively applied to the acts of man towards another. It started when authoritarian governance first formed the concept of getting everyone in the community to behave in such a way that his or her contribution to society was objectively positive and additive. Prior to this period any member of the community was supposed to do two things: firstly work on community projects or pay taxes in lieu, and secondly show allegiance to the ruler or King.

With the industrial revolution a citizen's part had to assume a different form. After the French revolution in 1789 the Jacobins implemented a "Reign of Terror" through political violence by agents of government against its own citizens and political opponents.

Karl Marx was the first person to give emphasis to the establishment of socialism in advanced capitalist countries. In his "Communist Manifesto", drafted by himself and Engels, he called on the proletarians of all countries to unite. He repeated this message in his First International tutelage in 1864. But it was not until Lenin's day that Marxist theory was positively extended to cover the development of revolutionary movements in all countries and among all races although Russia itself was not expected to be the first or even the leader of the Communist movement. This was because of Russia's relative backwardness as a capitalist society at the time. However when Lenin acceded to power after the Bolsheviks seized Government in 1917 he plunged for it and convinced Karl Marx to adjust his thinking and embrace Russia as the cradle of Communism.

It was from there that it was to spread and detonate socialist revolutions in Western Europe. In addition Lenin cherished the ideas of its acceptance in Asia and Africa where the yoke of colonialism added to the ravages of poverty and exploitation.

He pushed Communism with great vigor to cover the development of liberation movements in all countries and amongst all races. Lenin used "State Terrorism" to inculcate Communism in Russia and Joseph Stalin pushed it in similar vein after him. Use of this type of terrorism' by agents of State is widespread to-day and has proved to be instrumental in subjugating subject populations right round the world.
