Acidic soil: How to adjust the pH in your garden
The first recommendation that always comes up for any matter with the soil is to contact the local Agricultural extension office. They have a lot of information on this subject. Here is where soil tests provide soil information specific to your garden. By looking at the outcome of soil samples, the agricultural specialist can make recommendations on what to do with acidic garden soil.
If it is too acidic, using lime helps. Lime is to the garden as yogurt is to the human system. The balance factor is what applies to both. In farmer talk, it "sweetens" the soil. It usually takes a year for lime to break down in the soil. Some of the older gardeners sprinkle lime directly on the plants. Liming should help with adjusting the pH in your garden.
