How to please your boss

Pleasing your boss is often times a great career move. If you are willing to do the things that make your boss happy, you will find that you stay employed a lot longer. It is also a lot easier to do well in your job if your boss likes you, or if you at least do what the boss wants. Not doing things to make your boss happy is going to end up making your stay at your current employer a not so fun one.

So, how do you make sure that you are pleasing your boss? The first thing you want to do is make sure that you are saying yes as often as possible. This isn't to say that you should be a yes man, but you should try to say no as little as possible. If the boss is asking you to do your job, why would you make a fuss about it. It can be hard at times, but you should be willing to do extra at times.

Another thing you can do to please your boss is to be quiet and get your work done. This means you should stay focused on getting your work done without too much whining about it. While good bosses will encourage you to speak up from time to time, he doesn't want you to think that you are going to making too many decisions, otherwise you might as well be the boss.

Doing a good job also pleases the boss. Doing a good job while being able to do three things at once pleases the boss even more. The more work you can get done, the more productivity the boss can take credit for. A good boss will probably throw you a bone and thank you for your work. However, if you don't have a great boss, he will reward you with allowing you to keep your job. The silver lining is that hopefully this helps you get a new boss sooner.

Being good at handling clients really pleases the boss, or the general ability to do the things he cannot, or will not, do. If you are the guy who can make sure the boss can be home for his wife, or can avoid the nasty client, it will help you out. The boss will be happier and it might even result in you getting noticed by others in the department. Whatever helps keep your boss happy generally keeps others happy as well.

Doing what the boss says is what you generally need to do to keep the boss happy. If you are able to be his go-to guy, the guy who never says no and the guy who can do three things at once, the boss will be even happier. It might not help you all the time, but it will make your boss happy and keep you employed long enough to hope for a promotion.
