What to do with grass cuttings

There are some valuable uses for grass cuttings. Mulched around shrubs and small trees, it will preserve a lot of the moisture in the ground. It will also reduce the risk of the soil drying out and the shrub being harmed or killed off. Just a layer of about three inches will suffice, permitting rain to penetrate through to the soil.
When preparing a trench for things like runner beans and Sweet peas, some layers of grass cuttings with kitchen waste and newspapers, will provide food and retain the moisture.
The compost bin will also benefit from some thin layers of grass cuttings, holding moisture and drawing in the worms.
If you have an area of garden not in use, but it is full of weeds, a thick layer of grass cuttings will help smother the weeds, which in time will kill them off.
The only thing to watch out for is slugs and snails moving in there.
