Dr. Gregory House owns my heart. Seriously. Thinking back to the begining of the shows first season, I saw previews and thought to myself, 'ug, another ER'. I could not have been further from the truth.
Gregory House (Hugh Lawrey) is a limping, vicodin-poppin, sarcastic jerk with an unnatural ability to accuratley guess what is going on with his patients. He's a Diagnostician, which is one of the rarest breeds of Doctors. There are states across the country that do not have one. His immense education makes up for his lack of bedside manner.
Joining our hero, we have Dr. Cuddy (Lisa Edlestien) who is the Hospital Administrator. She tries her best to keep a tight rein on House, who has been put before the hospitals board of ethics on more occasions to count. She is a talented doctor and as the show progresses, a friend who would do anything to keep House practicigin medicine.
Aside from Dr. Cuddy, House is joined by a group of three supporting doctors. Specializing in the field of nuerology, there is Dr. Eric Foreman (played by Omar Epps) an amazing doctor with a tainted past of stealing cars that House loves to throw in his face. There is also Dr. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer) as the teams intensevist who has a troubled relationship with his father. Finally we have the lovely Dr. Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison), the teams immunologist and personal interest specialist. Dr James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) also joins the cast as an oncologist and Dr. House's only real friend out side of work. He's well intentioned, though seems to have a hard time staying faithful to his wife.
Through the three seasons, the show has dealt with many issues, from tick paralysis, incest and an unexpected pregnancy in a 12 year old. Each episode showcases a new health issue, but every show has the Doctors lives going on the side. We have seen Dr. Cuddy struggle with infertility and being single, Dr. Cameron develop and lose her a crush on house, Dr. Wilson's wife leave him. We have also seen Dr. House mess with the wrong cop who then investigated him for drug abuse.
The shows spell binding and captivating stories, mixed with Hugh Laurie's personality on the side make it hard to miss an episode. With lines like:
"If you're considering grabbing my ass, don't start anything you can't finish."
"I thought I'd get your theories, mock them, then embrace my own. The usual."
"Okay, fine. I'll father your child. But first you gotta write me a Vicodin prescription. Just so I can get through the foreplay."
and
"Is this an intervention? You're a little late, since I'm not using drugs anymore. I am, however, still hooked on phonics."
it's hard not to fall fast and stay loyal. At the risk of sounding cliche, two thumbs up
