I pushed my worries aside. I sat on a small chair as my son filled a plate of goodies for me. He was carefully selecting the best treats for me. He gave me an artistic hat of red tissue paper to wear. He gave me the card and present that he had made. He showed me around his classroom. He joined his class in singing a special Mother's Day song. It was a fabulous day.
After my son and I get home, we find out that budding scientist will get to discover even more things about science and medicine. Little scientist will get to discover anesthesia and the concept of fasting. The kernels were too close to the ear drum so little toddler has to be perfectly still. General anesthesia is the only option.

We go over to the hospital with dad and brothers waiting at home, which brings me back to the doctor who obviously didn't understand the concept of Mother.
A mother does what needs to be done. A mother is heroic without even knowing it. It takes courage to do what needs to be done sometimes. You want to stop your child's tears, but sometimes you can't because that would cause more harm in the long term.
I've been asked if giving birth was the hardest thing that I have ever done. I always answer no. Taking a child to surgery is on my list. caring for children when I'm very ill and need to be in the quiet dark near the bathroom and can't; Diapers need changing, babies need feeding. A child's needs take the first place in line and pregnancy is the practice for motherhood. A child's needs don't stop because you're having a bad day.
May you revel in all the aspects of motherhood: the fun, joys, sorrows, and hardships because every day is Mother's Day.
