Disagreeing with company policies: Should you voice concerns or not?

It's common to feel like a very small needle in a haystack of immense proportions when faced with a situation like this.

Will your voice really be heard by the people that matter?

You'd be forgiven for wondering whether the effort of speaking up would be worth it. And in this age of job insecurity, you'd also be forgiven for fearing for your job if you did speak up and make yourself known. The last thing you want is to be viewed as a troublemaker.

The key to voicing your concerns successfully is to do it in a constructive manner. Think about what you want to say before you do it. How can you speak out in a way that won't simply be seen as being negative towards the company?

It may help to make some notes before doing anything else. Make sure the emphasis is not on you, but on how the policy may negatively affect the company itself, or its customers.

You should also try to provide possible solutions that could cast a different light on the policy concerned. In this way, when you voice your concerns, you will be seen as someone who has the company's best interests at heart, and who has taken the time to think up alternative scenarios that would further benefit the company in the future.
