Life expectancy of a computer and the fast pace of New Technology deeply affects all computer users.
As far as I can remember, I bought my first PC, a Intel 286 in 1990.
Until the year 1996, I had the ample cash to upgrade to a Pentium I 120 MHz.
In year 2000, I upgrade to a P3 550 MHz, the one that I am using right now.
In all the 3 cases, my PC still works fine. However, as newer software and technology emerges, sometimes, you do not have a choice but to buy a brand new pc so as to use the latest software and play the latest games. If not, you would be stuck to your obslete software, not to mention, First Publisher, Wordstar, etc
I just bought a notebook last weekend as my current PC is 7 years old and having problem coping with new softwares. Imagine the kind of crawling speed it takes to load Windows XP, not to mention, the latest games, with sluggish movements.
In conclusion, The technology is growing at a fast pace that ignore the life expectancy of a computer. Hence, expenditures on this area is definitely a lose-out.
However, to minimize my losses, I always get the budget computers and DIY myself.
