A baby sling is a must-have for moms!  My Maya Wrap ring sling is like magic;  my little girl is content being close to me, loves looking around, and after a few minutes is often asleep.  This sling has a lightly padded shoulder and features a wide piece of fabric across your back to disperse the baby's weight and make it comfortable for even long periods of time.  I regularly carry my baby in it for hours at a time without any pain.

I also have a Snugli front carrier and a Balboa pouch sling, but my favourite is the Maya Wrap ring sling for the following reasons:

1) It's highly versatile and adjustable.  I can carry my daughter a number of ways, depending on her age and mood.  Pulling on different parts of the sling tail (the long piece of fabric hanging down from the rings) will adjust different parts of the pouch, allowing me to make sure my baby is comfortable and secure.  I found the videos on the Maya Wrap and ZoloWear websites really helpful when learning the different ways to use and adjust my sling.

2) Using the sling, I can keep my baby content and have 2 hands free.  It's great to be able to still do housework, prepare dinner (not over the stove!), read, eat, or even go shopping with her in it.  If your baby is very young and cannot support his or her head, you may be more limited and need to use one hand or arm to add extra support, especially while moving around.

3) It looks great!  Maya Wrap ring slings are available in various fabrics and patterns; there's something for everyone!

4)  It packs up small.  Unlike larger back-pack type carriers, ring slings are essentially a big piece of fabric and can be folded up to easily fit into your purse or diaper bag.

5)  It allows for private breastfeeding on the go.  Ring Slings can be used for discrete breastfeeding in public.  The sling supports the baby at your breast and your hands are free, with one forearm providing extra support.  The long fabric tail can also serve as a cover ensuring total privacy.

6)The Maya Wrap ring sling has a zippered pocket on the sling tail for your keys, cell phone, cash, diapers, etc., so you don't need to carry around  a big purse when out and about.

The most important thing is that you are comfortable with whatever baby carrier you choose.  Ring slings do have a bit of a learning curve, but one you get the hang of it, it becomes like second nature.
