You may be stumped on what to get your 6-9 year old boy. Boys of this age range greatly in their tastes, thus you want to consider his particular preferences when making your selection. You may choose one of the following ideas.

Books

Books can be both an enjoyable and practical gift for a boy. You will find many different books for this age group from superhero books to non-fiction books about sports and dinosaurs. You can get an early reader to help him with his reading skills.

They also make magazines for children of this age. Many revolve around animals or reading such as Highlights for Children. It could be fun for him to get mail every month.

Sports related gift

Many boys love sports. You can get him something so that he can play sports. For instance, get him an age-appropriate basketball hoop or soccer net. A sports ball can be fun. If he is a fan of a particular sports team, then he might love to get a shirt, hat or even tickets to a sports game.

Gift of experience

Many boys that are 6-9 years old already have far more toys than they need. Instead you could give him a gift of experience that he will remember forever. You can sign him up for basketball or baseball lessons. Get him a membership to a zoo or a children's museum. Take him on a day trip to an amusement park. This can take many forms and can provide special bonding time for you or for his family. You can also get him passes to a place like a bowling alley or skating rink.

Video games

Boys love to play video games. You can get him a full game system like the Wii if you have a decent sized budget. If he already has a system, then he might enjoy some games for it. You can also look for a handheld system such as the Nintendo DS. If you are not the child's parent, then make sure he or she would approve of the games that you choose.

Cars

Many boys enjoy cars. A younger boy may like some matchbox cars with which to pay. An older one may enjoy a racing system or remote control car. They also make remote control helicopters that actually fly.

Action figures

He may enjoy some action figures. Think about whether he has any special interests such as Superheroes.

Although getting a gift for a 6 to 9 year old boy can be challenging, there are many options. Consider whether he may enjoy any of the above ideas.
