Humor: Wishes

by Sarah Gibson

Created on: June 01, 2011

This morning I laid in bed staring up at the ceiling fan while my husband slept soundly next to me. As usual I had about a million things running through my head. I was thinking about how I was coming down with something yet again, and how even though I was sick I had about a million and one things to accomplish before the days end. I turned to face my husband and couldn't help but make a wish.... I wished that for one day, just one day that I could switch places with my husband. Yes, I know this is what every woman wishes for at least once in her marriage, but this is something that I wish for almost every single day.

I look back at the fan and I try to imagine what it would be like. I knew that I would have to work a long day on my feet at the restaurant that he works at, but I also knew all of the things that he would have to do as well. I could picture it now, getting up out of bed just to start a load of laundry that would take almost the entire day to finish due to the fact that maintenance has yet to fix the dryer vent that has been clogged for almost a year. He would then go to the kitchen to realize that the person that was in charge of dishes the night before had not done their job so he would have to do it for them if he planned on having anything to cook with so that he could eat a simple lunch. He will then open the dishwasher to find the the person in charge of dishes the night before last did put the dishes in the dishwasher, but failed to turn it on. He will start the dishwasher and decide the only option will be a cold lunch or nothing at all.

The moment my husband walks out of the kitchen he will notice that on the chore chart it is not his turn to cook dinner, but his roommate will be working late so in all reality it is his turn to make dinner, what will he make you ask. He looks in the fridge to see what he can come up with, and that is when it hits him; the fridge is almost empty, the shelves are almost bare, and he has to find something to please the entire house hold; it can not have onions, rice, tomatoes, a vegetable of any kind, and it had better not come from a box. He will go online searching for just one recipe that he has every ingredient for, instead combining two or three hoping that he won't hear any complaints. He looks at the clock to see that it is only about one in the afternoon and he still has a million things to do.

Throughout the day he finishes the dishes, tidies the house, tries to pay a thousand dollars worth of
