Poetry: I hear you

by Devrie Paradowski

Created on: May 31, 2011

Your breath
elbows me in the rib.
I hear you.

You want me to quit
smoking, drinking, overeating.
You want me to be good and clean,
like new baby teeth.

You want me to lose weight,
quit sleeping-in,
start exercising,
start sitting up straight.

I hear you.

I do.

I hear the squeaks
and groans
of my muscles and bones.
