England is home to a plethora of cultural diversity. England, which is a country in the sovereign state of the United Kingdom, has been home to many different types of people and groups over the ages.
Early on, England was inhabited by a large Celtic druid population, Britons, the Beakers, and Anglos. In 43 AD the Romans invaded and brought a whole new culture to the population. As these cultures merged, the area was transformed into the great country of England, and the British Empire was born.
Today, England is responsible for the international language, the world’s most beloved royal family, wonderful food, and patriotism that cannot be found anywhere else on Earth.
England was the birthplace of the world’s most famous sport: football (soccer in the US). The English national team is one of Europe’s best teams and the Barclay’s English Premier League is the most watched football league in the world. Football is a national pastime and an important part of English culture.
English cuisine is also an integral part of England. A traditional full English breakfast includes eggs (scrambled, poached, or fried), bacon (thick cut), sausage (bangers), fried bread, black pudding (a sausage made of blood), and sometimes tomatoes. This is perfect breakfast for the morning after a night out at the pub, because it is full of greasy food to help absorb the alcohol.
Fish and Chips are also a popular English tradition that is known all over the world. Fish and Chips are best served with malt vinegar. Other great English favorite foods are: Sticky Toffee Pudding, Mushy Peas, and Shepherd’s Pie. Today, English cuisine has integrated international favorites into their own cuisine, such as Beef Kebabs and Indian Curry.
The British Royal Family is the foundation for many English customs and tradition. Although the royal family is considered British, it is of English origin. The current constitutional monarch of the United Kingdom, as well as 16 other sovereign states, is Queen Elizabeth II. Her reign began on February 6, 1952, and her Diamond Jubilee (celebrating her 60th year as monarch) will be held in June of 2012. The next in line for the British crown is called the heir apparent. Today, that title belongs to Charles, Prince of Wales. His children, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Harry, are the next two in line for the monarchy.
The country of England is full of patriotism and cultural diversity. Sometimes these two clash, but for the most part, they live harmoniously within the country.
