Establishing self-esteem starts early in the life of our children. We can see very early in their development that positive reinforcement plays a strong role in their performance. Exactly the same way a computer will react indifferent to a negative command, so does our children with negative comments. They are not designed to automatically know how to act and react to every sitution. They wait for our direction. They wait for our approval, and even accept our disapproval. We should clearly know and understand that life is a learning process, and self-esteem is a process of development. Life consists of failures and disappointments, but we must build the confidence of our children with praise and encouragement. Positive input is the key to raising children with high self-esteem, but the secret is starting early.
