Many persons have their own views on what a Christian is, or should not be. The Word of God lays it down on what a Christian should be.
Christians are to be different from those who are in the world according to the standards set down by God’s word. The Word of God teaches us that we must separate ourselves from this world by refusing to be conforming to it.
A Christian is not one who lives an ungodly life by committing sexual sins, lying, cheating, and slandering others and so on. No! Christians are those who live in holiness and pureness according to the Word of God.
And let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity (2 Tim. 2:19 KJV).
Christians walk according to the teachings of Christ. After all, did not Jesus say, “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples?
A Christian is one who walks in the Holy Spirit. In our lives, we have the flesh and the Spirit. The flesh is always at enmity with the Spirit of God; hence, there is always a constant struggle in us to do the right things. Apostle Paul said:
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would (Gal. 5:16-17 KJV).
Persons who are not Christians do not follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. In most cases, these persons are always committing mischievous and evil acts because they do not have the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
A Christian will always have the fruits of the Holy Spirit in action in his or her life. The Holy Spirit will always teach us how to conduct our lives on a daily basis.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness and temperance: against such, there is no law (Gal. 5:22-23 KJV).
Without the help of the Holy Spirit, we would not be able to do the things mentioned in the above Scriptures. It is no wonder that Jesus called the Holy Spirit the Helper.
A Christian does not practice doing the works of the flesh as recorded in Galatians 5:19-21.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God (Ga. 5:19-21 KJV).
There is a distinct difference between a Christian’s actions from those of non-Christians. The difference is plain in the Word of God; however, it is up to each individual to walk in his or her calling.
