Both of my daughters have had formal ballet training since an early age and have been taught by a member of the Royal academy.
The main 'con' of this training has been the cost in terms of money and time and these factors have effected my partner and I more than our daughters. We were keen for our daughters to train and so we gave freely.
Aside from the obvious benefit of learning to dance beautifully formal training has given my daughters poise and a good understanding of etiquette. Their posture and movement are graceful and add immeasurably to their attractiveness and self confidence.
Although their training is primarily in ballet it has enabled them to develop skills in a wide range of dance styles including line dancing, rock and roll, ballroom and jive.
An off shoot of ballet training is increased general fitness and strength and I often see the grace, subtlety and strength demonstrated when my daughters play for the local football team.
