Curb Your Enthusiasm
Curb looks to be in its last season (which is its 6th), but in my opinion it ranks as the best. Keep in mind, I'm partial to comedy, but Curb has truly trekked on new ground. Curb is the brain child of one Larry David, AKA the co creator of Seinfeld, and it looks like Larry has done it again.
He was just having fun and playing by his own rules with Seinfeld. It almost seemed like an accident and according to his own words it was doomed for failure from the start. Sorry Larry, but Seinfeld took off and you changed the way the game was played. A show about nothing, but really a show about everthing. Everything we encounter in day to day life. Another title could have been, "Sweating the small stuff!" Seinfeld became a cultural phenomonon, but could lightning strike twice? Yes, for Larry David it did and it can! Enter Curb Your Enthusiasm, now entering its sixth season on HBO, and watch as the Lightning hits for a second time!
Curb had the same beginning as Seinfeld, in that it was another project by Larry David and a friend in which he thought was doomed from the start, but that actually took off! Curb Your Enthusiasm is about improv! Improv within the boundaries of a well written story line, but with no pre written dialogue. Again this time around, Larry starts off with the special and the show gets picked up as a series. Curb is fresh and new. It hones in on our cultures little indiosyncricies. Curb pokes fun of our desperate need for political correctness and yes, talks about the white elephants standing in the middle of the room. The show has dealt with how Black and White folks relate to each other and the still sensitive, raw issues between them. The show has dealt with homosexuality as well, following a similiar premise. Death has been addressed in a most humorous way. You name it and it has been addressed (old age, drugs, marriage, adultery, fame,). The list goes on and on.
Simply put as far as writing, comedy and t.v. are concerned we are looking at a genius who has just accomplished his second biggest work! So sit back and watch or better yet buy the DVD's
