Democracy is by far the best system from which optimising life and maximising potential are realities for all. It allows reward for hard work, business nous and creative endeavour. Democracy means dreams can be realised in a safe environment where democratically elected officials insure a sound rule of law and beneficial social structure.
The democratic process has evolved with time but has failed to keep pace with change. All too often we see a 'we know best approach' from officials who make decisions based not on what they perceive to be the best policy for the Country but rather what the polls state they can get re-elected on. This problem is caused by many reasons, the main one being an exclusive government rather than an inclusive one.
Technology has afforded us many things and the populace are way better informed now than say even ten years ago. So technology should be implemented to improve understanding and offer a better informed choice. Government often campaign on scare tactics about opposition policy and have trouble trying to paint the bigger picture in a credible fashion. So offering through the internet a chance for citizens to understand more and have an informed say would be a good thing.
For example, if we ran an ideas survey over the internet, it would help determine many things like: strengths, systemic hurdles, laws that need review, failing services, ways to maximise productivity, ideas for growth and many other things. An ideas forum done over the internet would be cost effective and bubbling with potential opportunity.
Democracy in business often means the strongest at the top gobble those round them and the consumer ends up with a lot less choice. The power of the multinationals has got to a point where government needs to be very mindful of how this power can be abused. Business strength is critical so consumer choice needs to reward business that supports them. It’s never just about the cheapest product; rather supporting the bigger picture.
“Think not what your Country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your Country.”
In a democratic system choice can make a huge impact on everyone’s way of life. Often we fail to exercise good choices because its benefits aren’t well- understood. Make a difference and buy American made. So democracy is in decline, thankfully because of it we have freedoms, rights and the privilege of talking about how best to fix it.
