Having never been an advocate for further personal infringements myself, the typical societal majority would, or should, shout an emphatic NO on this topic. Personal invasion aside, anger management classes are a farce as far as psychology is concerned. It sounds good in theory but management cannot be applied in everyday situations. Most drivers don’t stop and count to ten before reacting to being cut off in traffic or otherwise having some sort of mis-deed exacted upon them.

We may as well ask the question of whether every driver should be required to go to church on Sunday. Even at that I’ve seen people jockeying for parking spots in an unholy fashion. In fact, if we were to require anger management for drivers, lets go one further and require parenting classes for all new mothers and fathers. I think that is more appropriate at this point.

Better yet, let’s require training on road etiquette such as using the right lane to enter/exit the freeway or for those that had rather drive slower than prevailing traffic. Let’s also teach everyone that the left lane is for passing and trying to move to our destination with as little interruption as possible.

In fact there would be no need for anger management if people would respect the rules of the road and those driving on it. The use of blinkers, slow on the right, pass on the left, etc. would be a great start to realizing that driving is not that difficult. Just imagine how much time, fuel and money it would save if everyone drove in a respectful manner and realize that they will not reach a destination any faster by trying to weave in and out for the seemingly best position in line.

To end the topic I’ll create a new one, how about a requirement for “Autobahn training“. The Germans don’t have cup holders, they don’t eat in their cars or apply makeup and text while driving. How about we take a lesson in driving itself rather than the hate of it? That will assuredly cure any road rage or need for anger management if we’d just drive correctly.

Let’s also imagine insurance rates dropping as less wrecks happen when we all learn the rules of the road. Better driver training is at the heart of our problems on the road. Fix that and we’ve cured the root of the problem of rampant road rage.
