Turmoil in Pakistan by bin laden death
A huge hue and cry is streaming in Pakistan due to confirmation of the death of bin Laden by Barrack Obama which he made in a late night special address from the East Room of the White House. Contrary to all beliefs about his residence in difficult terrain area alongside of Pakistan-Afghanistan border, he was shot down in a compound very near to a military academy of Pakistan. According to certain reports he fiercely resisted the assault force and tried to retaliate with an automatic weapon. American intelligence agencies and CIA got the clue from talks of a special messenger to Osama and consequently formed their strategy to strike. The forty minute raid culminated in the death of bin laden, his son, courier and a woman to be used as a human shield by male fighters. It was also the end of a 10 year-long manhunt.
Osama's death has shocked and embarrassed civil and military establishments in Islamabad. From now onwards it will be very difficult to realize America and Europe that Pakistan is not a safe haven for world terrorists. Pakistani authorities were constantly denying and now what will be about their credibility which is terribly blown apart. If it has occurred in another country of the world, there would be broken diplomatic relations or the government falling which will not happen in Pakistan. Furious discussions have started in the country regarding capabilities of a national security system, its radar system failure and most importantly safety of nuclear assets.
Pakistan is now in a very awkward position as on one side, Pakistan has suffered more at the hands of al-Qaida and Taliban than any other country of the world and at the other, to regain world faith in the war on terrorism. It has to revisit its policies regarding War on Terrorism, Taliban, and North Waziristan in order to win back the sympathy of the world. A high level inquiry is to be announced to point out loop holes in the national security system and a major overhaul in intelligence agencies to reestablish international credibility.
America and Pakistan should develop more understanding to cope with al- Qaeda leadership and try to prevent any further occurring of the present ugly situation. Al-Qaeda network is bound to collapse if both the countries do not lose focus on real enemies of civilized world and keep working good relationships. Al-Qaeda will try to win sympathies of Pakistani masses and will misguide them by propagating that America will attack Pakistan.
