Chapter 6 All My Life

“Thanks for coming over and helping me, I really appreciate it.  All my life is in these boxes, but I tried to make it easy by labeling and organizing.” Rose tries to diffuse a tense situation by taking a deep breath while maintaining a pleasant expression.  However, her lips have almost no skin left as she has chewed most of it off in exasperation.  She is starting to think, not for the first time today, that asking Russell to help her move all her life that was packed away was not a good idea at all.

He looks into her closet with a look of disgust on his face.  “Why are the shoes still in the store boxes?”

“Well, it’s how I store them in the closet, and that way they can be moved easily, of course.”

“If it was me, I would take ‘em out of the boxes and just put ‘em into garbage bags.  They would be much easier to move.  That’s simple logic, ya know.”

“No, that’s men’s logic.  How would I store them if they’re not in boxes?”

“Just keep ‘em in the bag of course and throw the bag in the closet and throw out the shoe boxes.  They take up way too much space the way you have them, and it’s gonna take me a lot of trips to the truck.”

With his fluctuating weight, from body builder bulk to heroin-skinny, wearing the same size was not exactly a pleasant look either.  His weight always depended on if he had extended female company or not.  Whenever things went downhill with women, he would stop eating and start maudlin in his beer – or worse.  Really, men were such babies with their emotions!  When he had women around he would complain about them, but he would always work out, yet take it to the extreme.  When he did not have female company, he complained about that as well.

“Okay, I can handle these shoe boxes, I will take the time to take them downstairs.” Rose says as she heads towards
